Everyone selling on Poshmark has asked themselves at some point - how can I get more followers? There are several different answers to this question, but I think it's important to talk about why you want followers in the first place.

Understanding why you want followers is key for deciding where to find your target followers and how to get them to follow you.

Why Do We Want Followers?

Duh - to sell more items. But how exactly do followers help?

Well, you can share items from your closet to your followers to have them show on your followers' feeds. Being able to get your items in front of potential buyers whenever you choose is definitely a perk of having followers.

Your followers also have a gold mine you can tap into: their followers. Let's say you have 10,000 followers, and each of your followers has 10,000 followers. That means there are up to 100,000,000 other followers that you are loosely connected with and can easily reach.

Where To Find New Followers

So where can we find these valuable followers? One of the best ways to find new followers is browsing through popular brands, specifically those that you sell. You can quickly find this in the mobile app by going to the Shop tab, clicking All People in the top right, and then clicking My Brands under Discover People.

Where you're searching should be filled with users that are:

  1. interested in the clothing you sell,
  2. selling clothing similar to your inventory, or
  3. both.

Finding users that fit both cases are the best because they could potentially buy your inventory and they will be more likely to share your items to their followers. Since they sell the same type of clothing, their followers are probably the same followers you are looking for right now. And those followers may also fit our best-case scenario, where they will share your items to their followers as well. And those followers... well, you get the point.

How To Get Someone To Follow You

Chances are, you've had someone you didn't know follow you on Poshmark before. You probably checked out their closet to see if you should follow back, or worse, said "cool" and kept shopping.

You could try the follow-for-follow tactic and just start following as fast as you can, but it doesn't seem very convincing. Getting someone to follow you back without hesitation should be your goal. The best way to do that is to get their attention by sharing an item or two from their closet. Most other users want the attention and audience just as much as you, so they are way more likely to return the favor when you're actually helping them out. That means you should be getting shares in return as well, which increases your outreach even further.

Becoming A Posh Ambassador

Becoming a Posh Ambassador involves hitting and maintaining certain thresholds for your account, such as your available listings, self-shares, and community shares.

Poshmark gives preference to ambassadors when displaying posts to users, which means Poshmark will be putting your posts in front of buyers more often just for having this status. If you go to the Find People section of the Poshmark app (the search icon on the right side of the top bar), a list of Posh Ambassadors shows up for you to connect with. Once you hit ambassador status, you will be showing up in this list, which will also get you more followers and potentially buyers.

The best part is, our above tactic includes increasing your community shares, which should push you towards the ambassador status while you're gaining followers at the same time.

Piecing It All Together

Now we know why we want followers, where to find them, and how to get them to follow us. You start browsing posts related to what you sell, start following people, and even share an item or two from each persons's closet. Maybe you even notice several popular posts by the same user and decide to share a few extra items to be extra-sure they follow back and share some of your items. You're making effective choices so you can gain more followers with less work.

Except, now your fingers are starting to hurt. It's already been 30 minutes and you've only followed 200 people. Some people are following back but not fast enough to make this feel worth it. You're feeling like there's no way you'll be hitting 50k followers any time soon, 100k followers seems impossible, and you have no idea how you'll ever be like the Poshers you see with rooms full of inventory that doesn't stop selling.

Scaling Up

Even if you were to put in the time and effort to grow your followers at the rate you really wanted, you'd be spending your entire day following users and sharing posts. That wouldn't leave you with enough time to:

  • Respond to potential buyers
  • Source new inventory
  • Pack and ship orders
  • Send bundles and offers to your likers
  • Handle any issues
  • And the list goes on...

If you want to scale up your Poshmark game without hiring someone or wasting all day doing the tedious work, then you should try signing up for PoshieBot.
